The budget session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad will continue until July 9. The decision was taken at the third meeting of the Parliament's Business Advisory Committee held on Sunday.
The meeting, chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, at the Cabinet Room of the National Parliament Building, discussed the allocation of time and duration of the budget session.
Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the meeting alongside members of the committee, including Leader of the Opposition Md Shafiqur Rahman, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, ATM Azharul Islam, Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam, and Muhammad Naushad Zamir. Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal, MP, also attended the meeting as a special invitee of the Speaker.
The committee has decided that Parliament sittings will begin at 3:00 pm each day, except on public holidays. It was also proposed that two sittings a day may be held from June 27 to June 30 to facilitate the completion of parliamentary business.
Traditionally, a total of 40 hours is allocated for budget discussions. The committee also empowered the Speaker to make any necessary changes regarding the duration of the session and the number of working days if required.
A total of 3,228 questions have been submitted for the session, including 191 questions for the Prime Minister and 3,037 questions for other ministers. In addition, 98 notices seeking discussions under Rule 71 and 293 notices of resolutions under Rule 131 have been received.
Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan provided secretarial support during the meeting. Senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were also
present.
