The students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) alleged that the police did not cooperate with them to file a case after a car hit a motorbike and killed a fellow student in Purbachal.

They staged a demonstration over the matter at BUET's Central Shaheed Minar on Saturday to protest the fatal incident.

They also put forward their five-point demand during the 2nd day of protest.

The victim, Muhtasim Masud (22), was a second-year student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), BUET.

The crash occurred around 3:00 am on Friday at a police checkpoint in the Neela Market area on the Kuril-Kanchan road in Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila. The road is part of the Purbachal 300 Feet expressway.

Two other students of the university also sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Three students of the 21st batch of the CSE department read out a written statement in which they alleged that police did not cooperate with them in registering the case.

They also gave a detailed account of Friday's incident.

The protesting students said they would submit a memorandum to the home adviser to ensure fair investigation into the incident and the maximum punishment to the 'perpetrators'.

They further alleged that the 'murder' was being labelled as 'an accident' in the media.
