Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to fly to Switzerland on January 21 to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF), a spokesperson for the foreign ministry said on Thursday.
During his four-day visit, the chief adviser will take part in different sessions of the WEF. This year the theme of the WEF is 'Shaping the intelligent age', he said, adding that on the sidelines of the Forum, the CA will have bilateral engagements with a number of foreign dignitaries and media.
Responding to a question whether anyone from the government has been invited to the oath-taking
ceremony of President Donald Trump which will be held on January 20 in Washington, spokesperson and director general of the ministry, Rafiqul Alam, said that the Bangladesh ambassador in the USA will represent Bangladesh at the event.
He said that so far 13 people injured during the July mass uprising were sent abroad for better treatment and two of them already returned home after receiving treatment.
He also said that UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka, MS Gwyn Lewis, was summoned by the foreign ministry on January 13. She was asked to explain why wrong and misleading information about Rohingyas was included in the UN report.
Replying to another question, he said that the foreign ministry has sent all the required information to the UN fact finding mission on the atrocities carried out by the previous government during the popular uprising.
He also said that there was no secret agreement between the governments of Bangladesh and India as all the agreements between the two countries have been posted on the website of the external affairs ministry of India. So all these are in public domain, he said.
On the border issue, he said that discussion is ongoing between the home ministries of the two countries regarding any deviation of international law in the construction of fencing by the Indian side along the border.
