The government on Wednesday decided, in principle, to approve proposals for importing 0.3 million tonnes of diesel and procuring EPI vaccines through the UNICEF under direct-purchase method.

A meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at the Jatiya Sangsad, made the decision to cope with the country's demand for fuel oil and an acute crisis of vaccines amid the prevailing geopolitical tensions caused due to Middle East war.

According to the Cabinet Division documents, the committee gave, in principle, its nod to three proposals of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division for importing a total of 0.3 million tonnes of diesel.

According to the approvals, the YAR Energy AG will supply 0.1 million tonnes of EN590 10 PPM sulfur diesel, the K&R International Trading Company will supply a similar volume of 10-50 PPM sulfur diesel, and M/s Sikder International will supply 0.1 million tonnes more EN590 10 PPM sulfur diesel under direct purchase method.
