CHITTAGONG, Nov 10: The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has received 56,696 appeals from the owners of commercial and residential buildings as of Thursday to review their enhanced five-year holding tax.

There are 185,000 government and private holdings under 41 wards of the city corporation.

In the last 10 days, the city corporation has settled only 1,627 cases, with 78.24 per cent reduction in taxes on an average, the CCC sources said. The appeal review on holding tax started on October 31.

The last date for filing appeals against the assessment of holding tax and rate on the basis of value of lands and buildings was November 11, but the CCC authority has extended the deadline up to December 11.

The CCC authority has published a public notice in the newspapers today (Friday) urging the holding tax payers to file their objections in prescribed form available with the local wards, circle office and revenue department of the Chittagong City Corporation.

The CCC further said that it would not realise any unreasonable municipal tax from the city dwellers. Regarding the appeals, it said the Review Board of the CCC will consider all pros and cons and fix the tax and rate at a tolerable level.
