Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has requested China to extend the loan- repayment tenure and reconsider different fees to help revive the damaged economy of the country due to the unexpected political reality in the past 17 years.
The party also sought help to see grant possibilities, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir said these at a press conference on Monday while briefing about his five-day China visit.
China assured BNP of considering the requests, he added.
A delegation led by Mirza Fakhrul recently visited China and held meetings with the Chinese ruling party leaders and other high officials.
Mirza Fakhrul said that the Chinese project related to Teesta River was also discussed during his visit to China.
He said that they are working on it. BNP will look at the issue positively if it comes to power in the future, he added.
BNP reiterated its stance of one-China policy.
The BNP leader said that China's attitude is positive about restoration of democratic trend in Bangladesh.
The party's secretary general also said that BNP has positively accepted the proposal of the Communist Party of China to sign a two-year political memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Mirza Fakhrul said, mentioning China's contribution to the development of Bangladesh's infrastructure, the country has been called upon to play a greater role in the transfer of advanced technology in digital technology, semiconductors, renewable energy, medical and healthcare, higher education, communications, modern agricultural technology, SME business and blue economy in the future.
In view of this, China has expressed a positive attitude, he continued.
The BNP delegation called on China to play a greater and more effective role in the safe, voluntary and dignified return of Rohingya.
On the second day of the visit with Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong, China's cooperation in developing Bangladesh's infrastructure, environment and technology was called for. The issue of labour force capacity, improved investment environment and investment security in Bangladesh was also presented.
The construction of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Hospital, practical steps to preserve and increase export opportunities for agricultural products produced in Bangladesh's northern part, facilitating treatment of Bangladeshi patients in four specialised hospitals in Kunming and initiatives to establish international land communication between China and Bangladesh were also on the agenda, said Mirza Fakhrul.
