Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Thursday said China will play an active role in helping resolve regional and international burning issues as the country takes seriously its responsibility for maintaining international security.
"Today, China is in a much better position to help resolve various regional and international issues. We are ready to play our part. Indeed, the world expects no less from us," Mr Wang said replying to a question about China's recent involvements in some regional and international issues including Bangladesh-Myanmar crisis.
He came up with the observations at a press conference held in Beijing on the sidelines of the annual two sessions.
The minister also emphasised that the country firmly rejects the use of force and imposing one's own views on others when it comes to resolving international conflicts and challenges.
He said China does not want to interfere in internal affairs of any country and will not do it.
Mr Wang said, "In helping to settle their problems, we follow strictly Chinese approach…our approach is rooted in the traditional Chinese culture."
"There are things we do and there are things we don't do," he said, adding "what China does is justifiable and peaceful, he added."
He also said mutual trust is an issue between China and India that needs to be addressed urgently.
"Chinese and Indian leaders have developed a strategic vision for future bilateral ties. The Chinese "dragon" and Indian "elephant" must not fight but dance with each other," he said.
He expressed the hope that the two sides will replace suspicion with trust, manage differences through dialogue and build a future through cooperation.
The foreign minister said the Belt and Road Initiative is a global initiative and follows all international rules. "The initiative is a platform for international cooperation, thus follows market principles," he said.
"It's a transparent initiative launched by China. It follows the golden rules of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits," Mr Wang said, adding that the initiative aims to be equal footed, inclusive and universally beneficial.
He said a large number of projects carried out under the initiative are adding needed momentum to the economic and social development of the host countries.
The Chinese foreign minister said four major events China will host in 2018. Of the events, Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference will take place in Hainan in April and focus on reforms and opening-up while Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit will be held in Qingdao in June.
Also, Forum on China-African Cooperation Summit will take place in Beijing in September and focus on the Belt and Road Initiative while 1st China International Import Expo will take place in Shanghai and focus on further market opening.
