Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang extended on Monday their heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on securing her party's absolute majority in the 11th parliamentary elections, report agencies.
Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Zhang Zuo handed over their congratulatory messages to Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban.
The ambassador highly appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership for development of Bangladesh and hoped that her Vision-2021 will be materialised and the country will be turned into a middle income country by 2021 under her dynamic leadership.
The Chinese envoy expressed the hope that the strategic and mutual cooperation between the two countries will continue in the days to come.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister thanked the Chinese President and Prime Minister for congratulating her and appreciated continued support of Beijing for the development of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on her reelection as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
"The Indian Prime Minister phoned his counterpart Sheikh Hasina at about 10:30am and congratulated her, the Awami League and the people of Bangladesh after her party's win", Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said.
"The victory of the Awami League in the polls is the reflection of stunning development that Bangladesh attained under your dynamic leadership," Modi said.
The Press Secretary mentioned that the Indian Prime Minister assured that his country will continue to support Bangladesh's development efforts like the past.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also thanked the Indian prime Minister for making the phone call and said he is the first head of state or government who congratulated her after her party's landslide victory in Sunday's parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Prime Minister of Bhutan Lotay Tshering, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Chief Minister of Tripura Biplobi Kumar Deb also greeted Sheikh Hasina.
