Correction-----

October 16, 2021 00:00:00

In a front-page report published in the October 15, 2021 issue of the Financial Express under the headline 'Onion duty-free, sugar RD cut', it was mistakenly mentioned that onion import duty had been waived fully. Actually the NBR waived 5.0-per cent customs duty but another form of import tax known as Regulatory Duty remained in place. Onion importers are now required to pay 5.0-per cent RD. There was earlier a total of 10-per cent import tax on onion -- the 5.0-per cent CD and 5.0-per cent RD.

The inadvertent mistake is regretted.
