Covid claims five more lives, infects 244 in BD

Five people died from coronavirus and 244 more new cases were reported in the country during the last 24 hours until 8:0am on Thursday.

The figures were reported at six and 266 respectively on the previous day, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With Thursday's count, the total fatalities from Covid-19 reached 27,939 since the virus was detected in the country in March 2020.

A total of 19,507 samples were tested, including antigen tests, during the last 24-hour reporting time while 19,570 samples were collected during the period.

However, the Covid-19 test positivity rate slightly inched down to 1.25 per cent on the day against the previous day's 1.35 per cent, the GDHS data revealed.
