Covid claims three lives

The single-day death toll from Covid-19 came down to a fresh low of three in Bangladesh on Friday after one and a half years, according to official figures.

The daily virus caseload was logged at 196 during the past 24 hours until 8:00 am from Thursday's 247, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest daily count, the total fatalities from coronavirus reached 27,890 since the virus was detected first in the country in March 2020.

A total of 17,446 samples, including antigen-based rapid ones, were tested while 17,095 samples collected countrywide during the period in question.

The Covid-19 test positivity rate also inched down to 1.12 per cent on Friday from the previous day's 1.32 per cent, the DGHS data showed.

Meanwhile, 178 more people recovered from the coronavirus disease in the country during the 24-hour reporting time.

The rate of recovery from the disease was reported at 97.65 per cent on the day.

The fatality rate also remained static at 1.70 per cent.

According to the official data, the total Covid-19 cases crossed 1.57 million in Bangladesh and over 1.534 million of them recovered from the deadly disease.

On the other hand, more than 10.44-million samples have so far been tested since the detection of the virus here on 08 March 2020.
