CPD for focus on tracking electoral pledges

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) advised its professionals to focus, through research and dialogues, on monitoring the implementation of electoral pledges made by the political parties in the wake of the last national elections.

The CPD took the decision at its 52nd meeting of the BoT which was held at the CPD office on Tuesday, according to a press statement.

The meeting was presided over by CPD Chairman Professor Rehman Sobhan.

The Board expressed satisfaction over CPD's research activities during last six months (July-December, 2018) on issues such as structural change in RMG, youth unemployment, banking sector, minimum wage etc.

The trustees were also informed about a number of important events which CPD is planning to organise during 2019.

These include a national consultation on the SDGs identified for discussion at United Nations' upcoming High Level Political Forum at Summit level. CPD will be also focusing on the theme of localising the SDGs.

Among the national issues CPD has been advised to pursue research on power and energy, technological innovation, women empowerment. CPD, as the Secretariat of international think tank networks, will be playing a lead role in bringing out the first Report on State of SDGs in Global South.

The Board approved the CPD's plan for research, dialogue, publication and outreach-related activities for January-December 2019.

The meeting also approved the CPD's audit report for fiscal year 2018 and the revised budget for fiscal 2019.

Trustees M Syeduzzaman, former Finance Minister; Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Founding Chairperson of BRAC; Dr Anisuzzaman, Professor Emeritus of the University of Dhaka; Syed Manzur Elahi, Chairman of Apex Group; Khushi Kabir, Coordinator, Nijera Kori; Advocate Sultana Kamal, Human Rights Activist; Rasheda K Choudhury, Executive Director, CAMPE; Syed Manzoorul Islam, former Professor of English, University of Dhaka; Parveen Mahmud FCA, Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust; Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya and Professor Mustafizur Rahman, Distinguished Fellows of the CPD; Dr Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director of the CPD and Member-Secretary of the Trustee Board attended the meeting.
