Ctg Bijoy Mela begins tomorrow

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 08: Chattogram district administration has planned to hold Bangladesh's traditional victory fair, the Bijoy Mela, from tomorrow (Wednesday) to December 16.

Although the fair, sometimes called the 'Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela', has historically been organised at the outer stadium of the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram, this year the fair has been planned to be hosted at the city's Circuit House grounds.

A committee was formed to organise the event this year with Farida Khanom, the deputy commissioner of Chattogram, as the convenor and Ahamed Newaj, a member secretary.

"The preparation to arrange Bijoy Mela is completed. The committee visited the spot on Friday," the member secretary said.

"Bijoy Mela will have discussions, cultural evenings and victory speeches. The Chattogram district administration is organising Bijoy Mela keeping in mind the values of language movement of 1952, mass uprising of 1979, the great Liberation War of 1971, the mass uprising of 1990 and the mass uprising of 2024," he added.

In its first year, the Bijoy Mela was launched with the combined efforts of all political, social and cultural organisations of leaf-leaning freedom fighters in Chattogram, with a view to bring into focus the history of 1971 Liberation War to the young generation.
