CHATTOGRAM, Aug 24: After more than three decades, Chattogram city will get a new bus terminal at Kulgaon in Hathazari, with the city corporation planning to finish it by January 2026 and start operations in February.
The last time the port city saw a new bus terminal was in 1993 at Bahaddarhat, while its very first terminal was built at Kadamtali in 1966.
According to Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) officials, nearly 60 per cent of the overall construction work has been completed, including 70 per cent of the yard, boundary wall and drainage facilities, and about 50 per cent of the terminal building itself.
"We are constructing the new city bus terminal at Kulgaon on 8.10 acres of land for 12 routes serving north Chattogram. The project is expected to be completed by January, and the terminal will be launched the following month," said CCC Executive Engineer Mohammad Rifatul Karim Chowdhury.
He added that under the Chattogram city master plan, a total of 28 acres had been earmarked for bus terminal facilities. "After the Kulgaon terminal is completed for north Chattogram, another terminal will be built to serve the southern routes."
