CHITTAGONG, Aug 28: The authorities of the University of Chittagong have announced that elections to the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) will be held on Oct 12 next in the current year after long 35 years of previous polls in 1990.

Chief Election Commissioner and professor of the Department of Chemistry Monir Uddin declared the election schedule at an event at the Faculty of Social Sciences on Thursday afternoon.

According to the schedule, nomination forms will be distributed from September 14 to September 16 while September 17 will be the final date for submission of nomination forms.

Scrutiny of nomination forms will be carried out on September 18, followed by the release of the preliminary candidate list on September 21. Candidates may withdraw nominations until September 23 while the final list of nominations will be published on September 25.

Voting will be held from 9am to 4pm on October 12. It may be mentioned that the last CUCSU election was held on February 8, 1990. Despite a few rounds of discussions over the years, no voting took place.

However, since the University of Chittagong's founding in 1966, CUCSU elections have been held only six times despite being intended as an annual exercise.
