Customs seize shaving foam-laden truck

Benapole customs authority, confiscated on Wednesday an Indian truck loaded with about 3265.416 kilograms of Gillette Shaving foam containers worth Tk 5.0 million (50 lakh).

In a press statement, the Benapole customs authority said there were 7,812 bottles in 651 cartons that some smugglers tried to illegally bring into the country.

On the basis of information, the customs investigation research and management team traced the truck without any bill of entry required for importing goods.

The Benapole customs authority found no claimant of the seized truck.

They have found that some of the products of the truck remained unloaded in the customs house with no valid documents. The driver of the truck fled leaving the products behind sensing presence of the customs team.

Benapole customs commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury said they broke open the lock of the truck in presence of the local journalists.

There were stickers inscribed with 'Ship to: Procter and Gamble Bangladesh Private Ltd' on each of the cartons.

Customs authority found three consignments on the truck with SO dyes, one kind of dyes, unloaded first leaving the remaining products or illegally imported shaving foams bottles.

The products (Dyes) were imported by Paramount Textile Limited and the name of the clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent is Ruma International.

The C&F agent of the importer said they knew nothing about the confiscated products.

In an initial investigation, the Benapole customs authority found that the truck with shaving foam bottles was parked in the Number 1 shed where Procter and Gamble Bangladesh keeps its products.

The Benapole customs house is the largest land customs station of the country.
