DEW building 60 rescue boats

October 08, 2020 00:00:00

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman inaugurated the keel-laying ceremony of 60 multipurpose accessible rescue boats recently.

The Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd. (DEW Ltd), Narayanganj is building the boats for the disaster management ministry at the company's construction site, says a statement.

DEW Ltd managing director presided over the keel-laying ceremony.

Earlier on July 21 the company signed an agreement with the Disaster Management Directorate for building the boats at a total cost of Tk 270 million (27 crore) with each costing Tk 4.5 million (45 lakh).

The boats will be supplied to different areas of the country in three phases in the next three years.

The DEW Ltd was handed over to the Bangladesh Navy in 1999 as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina then. Because of her far sightedness the moribund company has now turned into a profitable entity.
