DG Nurun Nahar to perform BB governor's duty

The government on Sunday asked Bangladesh Bank (BB) Deputy Governor Nurun Nahar to carry out governor's routine duty alongside performing her own work.

The Financial Institutions Division (FID) under the Ministry of Finance issued an order in this regard after accepting the resignation of the central bank's Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder who tendered his resignation on Friday.

Ms Nahar will perform the additional responsibility until a new governor is appointed, says the order.

At the same time, the FID also asked the three other deputy governors to perform their responsibilities like in the past.

A day after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country submitting resignation, agitating employees of the central bank stormed into the governor's floor at the BB headquarters and demanded that the governor and the four deputy governors resign.

They also forcefully took resignation letter from Deputy Governor Kazi Saidur Rahman.

Since then the four deputy governors have been performing responsibilities from home and office following instructions of the government.
