Dr Kamal Hossain on Sunday said no autocratic government can deprive people of their rights if a greater unity is forged, reports UNB.

Jatiya Oikya Prokriya convener also stated that impossible can be made possible through people's united strength.

"We've the history of realising people's important demands with the united strength of people. We had got united during the Language Movement, Six-Point Movement, Liberation War and anti-autocracy movement, and made impossible possible. We'll surely be able to do it this time, too," he said.

Kamal Hossain came up with the remark while speaking at a human chain programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club.

Jatiya Oikya Prokriya arranged the programme to mount pressure on the government to accept its three-point demand, including formation of an election-time neutral government.

He urged the country's 160 million people to get united for waging a strong movement to establish that the country belongs to all, not to any individual, party and family." We'll surely be able to make our movement a success like in the past, and restore people's ownership of the country."

"I sincerely call upon all to forge a unity of people. If we can unite all male and female citizens of the country, we'll have such strength that no autocratic regime can deprive us of our ownership of the country and rights. Let's earn the power of unity and restore people's rights," the Oikya Prokriya convener said.

Kamal Hossain, also a noted jurist, criticised the government for what he said filing 'fictitious 'cases against political leaders and activists ahead of the election.

"We called for releasing all the political prisoners and not arresting any one until the election is over. Instead of releasing anyone, several thousand fictitious cases are being filed," he bemoaned.

Kamal Hossain, also the president of Gano Forum, said people will be deprived of their ownership of the country if the election is not held in a fair and credible manner.

"With the feeling, we're making efforts to unite people and getting overwhelming response from people."

Referring to newspaper reports, he said billions of taka were plundered from banks and siphoned off abroad as people have lost their ownership of the country.

He voiced concern that there has been no investment, new industries and factories and employment generation under the current government.

"We must bring a change through forging a unity. We're demanding a credible election to bring the change. We think there's no alternative to a free, fair and neutral election to bring a change (in power) through a legal way."
