Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus will attend the COP29 conference, scheduled to start on November 13 in the Azerbaijan capital Baku, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain said on Thursday.
Talking to reporters at the foreign ministry, he, however, said that the detailed schedule of the CA's visit was not yet finalised.
About his meeting with Tony Burke MP, Minister for Home Affairs, Arts, Cyber Security, Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, and Leader of the House of Australia, Touhid Hossain said that apart from the bilateral ties the Rohingya issue was highlighted in the meeting.
"I told him that repatriation of Rohingya to their homeland in Rakhine was the only solution to the problem", the adviser said. He had requested the Australian minister to create pressure on Myanmar so that the repatriation could be started as soon as possible, he added.
During the bilateral meeting with the Australian minister held in the foreign ministry, they talked about the background and spirit of the student-led mass upsurge that installed this Interim Government. The adviser apprised him of the reform initiatives undertaken by the interim Government to materialise the aspirations of the people, especially the young generation.
Mr Tony Burke mentioned that the Bangladeshi community in Australia and, in particular, in his electorate had strong support for the student-led movement in Bangladesh, said a spokesperson of the foreign ministry.
The Australian Home Minister underscored the need for containing irregular migration while promoting safe and regular migration. The Foreign Affairs Adviser agreed with him and stressed the need for effective initiatives from both sides for facilitating regular migration.
Among others, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia M. Allama Siddiki and Director General (East Asia & Pacific) Mohammed Nore-Alam were present in the meeting.
