Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor of the interim government, has expressed his determination to propel reforms and hold an election soon.

Yunus made the remarks in an interview with NHK in New York during his trip to the US for the 79th United Nations General Assembly, reports bnews24.com

In the interview, Yunus said the interim government's job is to carry out reforms as quickly as possible, and that the government will hold an election as soon as it is ready. "Failure is not something that we can accept," he said.

Referring to the students who played a major role in the overthrow of the Sheikh Hasina government, Yunus said that young people gave their lives for a "revolution" and suggested he would include the young generation in policymaking.

Yunus said Bangladesh looks forward to support from its biggest donor Japan "during this very critical period." He emphasised that Japan's cooperation is essential in rebuilding his country's economy and helping democracy take root there.

Yunus took the reins of the interim government on Aug 8, three days after Hasina resigned her premiership in the face of a student-led mass movement after 15 years in power.
