DU decides not to hold admission tests online

The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have decided not to hold the upcoming admission tests online for the 2020-2021 academic sessions.

The admission tests may be held division-wise, depending on the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the deans' committee held on Tuesday with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

According to meeting sources, total mark of the admission tests has been reduced to 100 from 200.

Of the total, 20 marks will be given on the basis of results of School Secondary Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and admission tests will be held on 80 marks.

Of the 80 marks, written tests will be held on 50 marks and Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) on 30 marks.

DU Pro-VC (academic) Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal said the university authority may take division-wise tests depending on the Covid-19 situation.

The dates of admission tests will be fixed after publishing HSC results, he added.

Social Science Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Sadeka Halim said, "All deans have agreed to take the tests offline and the tests will be held after considering the pandemic situation in the last week of December or January."

The proposed decisions will be finalised in an academic council's meeting.
