DU Correspondent | April 11, 2019 00:00:00

The Dhaka University (DU) central committee on Pahela Baishakh celebration has put several restrictions on the celebrations on the campus.

At a meeting on Wednesday, the committee issued the restrictions -- all kinds of programmes on the day must end by 5:00pm and wearing masks and carrying bags are not allowed.

However, use of masks created by the Fine Arts Faculty for the traditional 'Mongal Shobhajatra' will remain out of the purview of the restrictions, the meeting said.

Committee convenor and Pro Vice-Chancellor (administration) of DU Prof Dr Muhammad Samad presided over the meeting at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.

To celebrate Pahela Baishakh or the first day of Bangla new year, the Fine Arts Faculty will take out the 'Mongal Shobhajatra' from its premises on the campus at 9:00am on the day, the meeting said.

Other restrictions are as follows: Tooting vuvuzela on the campus will not be allowed on the day and hawkers also will not be allowed to sell them.

Except for vehicles carrying DU stickers, other vehicles will not be allowed to enter the campus from 7:00pm on April 13 while vehicular movement will remain suspended on the campus on April 14. No outsiders will be allowed to stay on the campus after 5:00pm on April 14.

The university community members will be allowed to go through the gates adjacent to Nilkhet and Palashi crossings only in their own vehicles.

The meeting also decided that adequate number of CCTV cameras will be set up on the campus on the day.

Public toilets will be set up on Haji Mohammad Mohsin hall playground and in areas adjacent to the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), Doel Chattor and Curzon Hall.

Member secretary of the committee Prof Nisar Hossain, Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani and other committee members were present at the meeting.
