FE REPORT

The Election Commission has published the gazette notification of the Members of Parliament elected in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The gazette was issued on Friday night by Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

The gazette contains the names of the elected Members of Parliament, along with their fathers'/husbands' names, mothers' names, and addresses.

The gazette serves as the official confirmation of a landmark election, signaling the country's return to democracy after years of political instability.

On Friday night, the Election Commission also published the gazette of the referendum results.

According to the gazette, 48,200,660 votes were cast in favour of 'Yes' in the referendum.

On the other hand, 22,071,726 votes were cast for 'No'.

The number of rejected ballot papers in the referendum was also significant-7,422,637.

The newly elected MPs are likely to take oath by February 17, Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid said on Sunday.

On the same day the MPs take oath, the new Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet may also be sworn in.

According to the Bangladesh Constitution, the newly elected MPs are to be administered the oath by the Speaker of the 12th National Parliament, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, or a person nominated by her. If this does not take place within three days, then within the following three days the CEC will administer the oath to the newly elected MPs.

Voting was held in 299 out of 300 constituencies in the 13th National Parliamentary Election last Thursday.

On Friday, the Election Commission announced the unofficial results of 297 seats. Due to directives from the High Court, the gazette notifications for the results of Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 have not yet been issued.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won the country's crucial parliamentary election with a thumping majority, with leader Tarique Rahman poised to become the prime minister, according to newly published official results.

Out of the 297 seats, the BNP won 209. In the two seats where results remain suspended, BNP candidates are also leading. Their allies secured three seats.
