EC to spend Tk 2.72b on poll-time law, order

The Election Commission (EC) fixed on Tuesday a budget of Tk 2.72 billion for five forces who will be deployed to maintain law and order during the next parliamentary polls, reports UNB.

They are police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard, Border Guard Bangladesh, Ansar and VDP.

Of the amount, Tk 63,22,84,250 have been allocated for police, Tk 10,20,28,850 for RAB, Tk 1,56,00,000 for Coast Guard, Tk 33,02,43,884 for BGB, Tk 163,81,75,600 for Ansar and VDP.

Village Defence Party (VDP) members will be deployed in national election duty for the first time. About 45,000 VDP members will get Tk 1,000 each for their two-day duty.

EC officials also hinted that its expenditure during the election may exceed its budget of Tk 7.0 billion.
