EC urged to arrest those possessing illegal arms

FE Report | December 20, 2018 00:00:00

Jatiya Oikya Front candidate for Noakhali-1 constituency Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon on Wednesday urged the Election Commission (EC) to arrest illegal arms holders to ensure holding of a free and fair election.

He also demanded that the EC take step for withdrawal of the officer-in-charge of Chatkhil police station due to his alleged biased and controversial role.

"I've requested the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to arrest illegal arms holders for the sake of holding a free and fair election," he told the media after meeting with CEC KM Nurul Huda at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon in the afternoon.

He alleged that terrorists equipped with illegal firearms attacked his supporters even in presence of law enforcers.

He said the police are arresting supporters of 'sheaf of paddy' without any reason.

Mr Mahbub, an influential pro-BNP lawyer of the Supreme Court, demanded that the Election Commission ensure safety and security of the Oiky Front supporters; otherwise it will be impossible for holding the election slated for December 30 in a free, fair and participatory manner.

Asked about the comments of CEC regarding his complaints to the EC, he said, "The CEC has assured me that action will be taken in this regard. Let's see what steps they take."
