Ensure ADCs' smooth functioning in Eid

BB asks banks

FE Report | June 12, 2018 00:00:00

The central bank has asked the commercial banks to ensure smooth operations of their alternative delivery channels (ADCs) round the clock to facilitate the users' transactions during the Eid vacation, officials said.

The ADCs include ATM (Automated Teller Machine), POS (Point of Sale), e-payment gateway and MFS (Mobile Financial Services).

Talking to the FE, a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) said the central bank has taken the measure to ensure smooth transactions using the ADCs during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr vacation.

He also said transactions using the digital channels such as ATM, internet or online and mobile normally increase significantly during the weekends and other holidays.

The BB issued a circular in this connection on Monday. It asked the managing directors and chief executives of the banks for taking necessary measures for ensuring smooth transactions during the Eid vacation.

All the scheduled banks have been asked to take adequate security measures at their ATM booths for avoiding any unwanted incident, it added.

The banks have also been asked to ensure ample cash at the ATM booths all the time during the Eid vacation.

More than 9,600 ATM booths are now in operation across the country. The Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) alone operates around 4,500 booths.

"We've already taken adequate measures to ensure uninterrupted services to our clients during the Eid vacation," a senior DBBL official told the FE.

The banks must inform their clients about any amount of transaction using ATM and POS by sending SMS (Short Message Service) to them, according to the BB circular.
