Family Card distribution likely to start March 10

The government is likely to launch the distribution of the 'Family Cards' on a trial basis among low-income households on March 10, with the initial rollout covering one ward each in 13 districts across the country, according to media reports.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to inaugurate the distribution.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the cabinet committee concerned held on Sunday, with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

The areas selected for piloting include a ward in each of the following upazilas: Pangsha in Rajbari, Bancharampur in Brahmanbaria, Lama in Bandarban, Charfesson in Bhola, Derai in Sunamganj, Bhairab in Kishoreganj, Lalpur in Natore, Thakurgaon Sadar, Bogura Sadar and Nawabganj in Dhaka.

Three city areas have also been selected: Korail slum in Dhaka, Khalishpur in Khulna city, and Patenga in Chattogram city.
