FF quota seekers vow to continue protest

October 07, 2018 00:00:00

The children of freedom fighters (FF) vowed on Saturday to continue their protest until their demands are met, reports UNB.

The children of freedom fighters under the banner of 'Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command' put barricade at Shahbag intersection demanding that the 30 per cent quota be kept in government jobs.

DU Prof AKM Jamal Uddin, spokesperson of Mutijuddho Moncho, said they would not leave the streets until the cabinet secretary resigns and their demands are met.

He said they would wage indefinite blockade programmes across the country from Saturday if the government does not cancel the gazette notification that  abolished freedom fighter quota on the next cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Monday.

Meanwhile, protesters staged token blockade programmes in Jashore, Rajshahi, Netrokona, Maymensing, Chattogram, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Sirajganj and Rajshahi district town on Saturday.

Chattogram Muktijoddha Parishad president Engineer Pavel alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir agents staged protest in the name of quota reformation.

"They were trying to destabilise the country," he added. Meanwhile, around two hundred protesters were demonstrating at Shahbagh intersection during filing of this report around 9:15 pm.

The government on Thursday scrapped the 46-year-old quota provision for Classes I and II government jobs after mass protests against 'discriminatory quota' for months.
