The government has formed four high-powered panels to resolve and monitor the RMG (readymade garment) and non-RMG sectors' issues including labour unrest involving the factories located mainly in Gazipur district, Ahsulia of Savar, Narayanganj and other places.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) has recently issued a directive in this regard. Every team has four members headed by a joint secretary of the ministry.
The teams have been formed to oversee the issues related to payment of due wages, leave and the overall situation currently existing in the RMG and non-RMG units.
The teams will conduct on-site inspection and monitor the labour situation in the factories in the run up to the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr and on the weekends. They will work to solve any problems arising over workers' dues before the Eid.
The teams will ensure active and vigilant monitoring of the overall situation by the law enforcement agencies. They will also take necessary effective measures to mend dissatisfaction among the workers in coordination with the local administration and law enforcement agencies if such situation arises.
The panels will have to provide regular reports to the labour and employment secretary in this regard.
