FE Report | March 22, 2019 00:00:00

The government will spend over Tk 401 million on providing agricultural inputs to the farmers free of cost for Ufshi Aus cultivation this year. Under the programme, over 0.45 million farmers in 64 districts will be benefited.

Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque announced financial incentives at his secretariat office on Thursday.

He said the government has taken up the incentives programme to provide marginalised farmers with seeds and fertilisers free of cost for ensuring a sustainable agriculture system in the country.

Under the financial support, each farmer will receive five kilograms of paddy seed (per kg Tk 58, total Tk 290), 15 kgs of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser (per kg Tk 23, total Tk 345), 10 kgs of Muriate of Potash (MOP) (per kg Tk 13, total Tk 130), Tk 90 as transport cost and Tk 20 as miscellaneous cost, totalling Tk 875 for cultivating one bigha of land.

The minister said financial incentives will help the farmers boost their incomes through using hi-tech agriculture technology and increasing the cultivation areas of Ufshi Aus crops.

The government has set a target to bring over 1.36 million hectares of land under Ufshi Aus farming, he added.

A total of over 1.3 million hectares of land will be brought under Aus cultivation this year.
