The government on Thursday formed a foundation called the 'July Shaheed Smriti Foundation' to provide support for the family members of the martyrs who lost their lives during the student-led movement in July.
"A seven-member committee was formed for the foundation with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus as the President. Mir Mahbubur Rahaman Snigdha, brother of Mugdha, a martyr of the July revolution, is made general secretary of the Foundation," Adviser Asif Mahmud told the press at a briefing about the decisions of the meeting of the Council of Advisers.
Adviser Nahid Islam is made office secretary and Kazi Wakar Ahmed is made treasurer of the committee.
Three advisers -- Asif Mahmud, Nurjahan Begum and Sharmin Mursheed -- are made members of the committee.
The number of members of the committee would be increased to 21 after incorporating 14 more members, Mr Asif added.
The Foundation will be responsible for providing long-term support to the families of the martyrs as per commitment of the present government, said Mr Asif.
It will also be responsible for arranging proper treatment for the people who were injured during the July revolution, he added.
