Bangladesh has cancelled an international tender to import 50,000 tonnes of wheat as the lowest bidder did not agree to a time extension amid rising global prices, two officials from the state grains procurement agency said on Monday, reports Reuters.
Trade house Swiss Singapore Overseas made the lowest offer of $290.94 a tonne, CIF liner out, in the tender by the Directorate General of Food, the procurement agency.
The tender has been cancelled as the wining bidder refused to extend the validity period needed for getting approval from the cabinet committee on government purchases, a senior official at the Directorate General of Food said.
Another official at the agency said rising world wheat prices could be the reason the bidder not to agree to the time extension, confirming the cancellation of the tender.
