Govt to brief nation on its activities every week: Info adviser

2.6 million children get measles vaccine since Apr 5

Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Zahed Ur Rahman Tuesday said the government would brief the nation every week on its activities and latest developments.

Speaking to reporters at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital, he also said misinformation and propaganda would be addressed and clarified regularly through these briefings.

The adviser focused on key updates from different ministries, noting progress in health, infrastructure, welfare, and digital services.

In the health sector, he said around 2.6 million children had received measles vaccines since April 5, while a total of 18 million children were expected to be covered in the coming months.

A home-based vaccination programme had also been launched in 18 districts and 30 sub-districts, he said.

The Ministry of Social Welfare had started new welfare programmes in Bogura, distributing family cards

among beneficiaries, he also said. The adviser said the agriculture ministry had distributed 1,458 kilograms of seeds in the same district, with the minister personally overseeing the initiative.

On infrastructure, the land ministry reported progress in acquiring land for major projects, including 20 key sites for highways and expressways. Notable projects include the Dhaka-Kanchpur-Basail-Tangail highway and the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway, with over 13 acres already acquired in Dhaka.

The transport ministry has launched the Karnaphuli River project in Chattogram and established 12 new river ports.

Preparations are also underway to manage transport during Eid-ul-Azha, including upgrades to bus terminals in Dhaka.

In the energy sector, large volumes of fuel, including diesel, octane, petrol, and furnace oil, have been distributed.

A digital fuel pass system has been introduced in several districts to improve efficiency.

The ICT and telecom ministry reported expansion in internet services, including 400 new Wi-Fi hotspots, 400 kilometres of fibre optic cables, and more than 3,500 broadband connections.

Talking about the law ministry, the adviser said 97 laws had been updated into new formats, while several others had been amended or were under review.

Meanwhile, the finance ministry is preparing the national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

In disaster management, nearly 4,900 relief packages have been distributed as part of emergency preparedness efforts.

The fisheries ministry has enforced a marine fishing ban from April 15 to June 11, seizing significant quantities of fish and shrimp during operations. The youth and sports ministry awarded "sports cards" to 171 athletes, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 300, with a target of 500.

Hajj operations have begun, with the first flight departing on April 17.

A total of 78 flights are scheduled to carry around 5,500 pilgrims, with real-time updates available online.

The adviser said the government remained committed to transparency, development, and service delivery across sectors through coordinated efforts by all ministries.
