Govt to fix fees of pvt sector hospitals, clinics

No private practice during duty hour

Health Minister Zahid Maleque said fees for treatment and diagnosis in the private sector hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres will be fixed by the government as per their categories.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will form a high-powered committee in this regard within a short period. Next measures will be taken on the basis of the committee's report.

The minister said these as the chair of a review meeting of the private sector hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres at Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Private Medical College Association president Mubin Khan drew attention of the minister to the central system of medical waste disposal. The minister agreed with his proposal in this regard.

Zahid Maleque also sought cooperation of the private sector hospitals in combating second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, in an emergency meeting of the health ministry taskforce on Tuesday, several decisions were taken, including restriction of the government physicians' practice at private sector hospitals during their duty hour.

If any doctor needs to stay at any private healthcare centre, s/he must inform the taskforce or any other relevant officials about it.

It was also decided in the meeting that the private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres must display their registration number. Besides, the taskforce will visit both the public and private hospitals and clinics, and licence of the unregistered private hospitals and clinics will not be accepted after 16 November.

The decisions were taken in the meeting, held at the health ministry with the taskforce convener Additional Secretary Mostafa Kamal in the chair.
