HC for ending trial of 139 prisoners by Aug 31

The High Court (HC) ordered trial courts concerned on Monday to complete trial of 139 prisoners, who are languishing in different jails without trial for more than seven years, reports BSS.

A High Court bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order, asking the officials concerned to submit reports before the court on executing the order.

The court came up with the order following a plea of the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office (SCLAO) in this regard.

The court also ordered the concerned investigation officers to ensure the presence of witnesses in the cases, saying departmental action should be taken against them if any negligence is found at their end.

The court asked deputy commissioners and superintendants of police concerned to provide assistance in the cases.
