FE REPORT | July 15, 2025 00:00:00

The High Court on Monday issued a rule upon the concerned bodies of the government for explanation as to why they should not be directed to declare Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus the "National Reformer" for his roles in the state- reforming process.

In the rule, the court also asked the respondents to explain as to why they should not be ordered to publish an authentic list of the martyrs including Abu Sayed, Mugdha, and Wasim, those who died during the July-August 2024 uprising, and to declare them "national heroes".

Public Administration Secretary, Defense Secretary, Cabinet Secretrary, Law Secretary, Information Secretary, Finance Secretary have been made respondents in the rule.

The HC bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Emdadul Haque Whiteman, a member of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ).

The petition was filed in February this year as a public interest litigation.

Lawyer Mohammad Ali Zinnah appeared in the court hearing representing the writ petitioner, while Deputy Attorney General Shafiqur Rahman and Assistant Attorney General Ekramul Kabir represented the state.
