Holidaymakers continue to return to Dhaka

FE Report | August 18, 2019 00:00:00

Holidaymakers continued to come back to the capital city on Saturday after celebrating Eid-ul-Azha with their near and dear ones at their village home.

A good number of holidaymakers returned to Dhaka to resume their official and other activities as most of the offices reopen today (Sunday) after a long vacation.

Railway stations as well as bus and launch terminals in the city were found crammed with the passengers returning from different destinations across the country.

Though no major disruption was reported during Saturday's journey, many passengers complained about a hike in fare.

Gabtoli bus terminal witnessed a huge crowd of returning passengers on the day.

A private bank official Shams Rahman said he returned from Rangpur by a night coach on Saturday morning.

"I will take rest for the whole day before joining my work tomorrow," he said, adding that there was no so much hassle the passengers faced pre-Eid travel.

Transport operators said they saw an increasing number of passengers on both Friday and Saturday.

Train passengers complained about schedule disruption from different destinations.

Sources said several trains from Khulna and Rajshahi were delayed by five to seven hours.

However, the capital city also wore a deserted look on Saturday. Eid holiday began on August 09.
