Several thousand protesters, allegedly organised and mostly manpowered by students from different colleges, on Sunday vandalised Dhaka National Medical College (DNMC) hospital after the death of a college student due to 'ineffective treatment', reports bdnews24.com.

The deceased, a student of Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College, died undergoing treatment, according to police.

Following his death, students from his college, a few other educational institutions along with other protesters, ransacked the hospital and left at least 20 people injured, according to police and onlookers.

The protesters gathered with sticks in front of the hospital around 1 pm.

When some students of Government Shahid Suhrawardy College tried to prevent the protesting students, they vandalised an office room of the college, a private car on the college premises and also vandalised Kabi Nazrul Government College.

The protests triggered traffic chaos in the adjacent areas of Bakshibazar, causing suffering to commuters.

Additional police forces were deployed to maintain law and order and army personnel were seen attempting to calm the protesters inside the gates.

Several journalists were harassed by students, reportedly led by the students of Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College, while they were covering news about the attacks.
