Attack on BEA office

Interim body demands arrest of culprits

FE REPORT | February 25, 2025 00:00:00

Condemning the recent unwanted incidents the Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) interim committee on Monday demanded immediate arrest of those who attacked and vandalised the association's office.

The Member Secretary of the BEA interim committee Mohammed Helal Uddin made the appeal at a press conference held Monday at the Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) office in the city.

At the press conference he mentioned that a self-proclaimed ad-hoc committee committed attacks on February 12 and February 17 in a bid to foil the association's elections.

Professor Abu Ahmed, chairman of the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh and noted economist Professor Mahbub Ullah of Dhaka University were, among others, present at the press conference.

The press conference was told that Professor Mahbub Ullah of Dhaka University had been requested to act as the convener of the interim committee, and he had accepted the offer.

"So, the members of the association should support Mahbub Ullah for the sake of restoring the lost prestige of the association," said Mr. Helal Uddin.

Speaking on the occasion, Abu Ahmed observed that the country's eminent economists had led the BEA in the past.
