Interpol to issue red notice against Hasina soon: IGP

FE REPORT | February 06, 2025 00:00:00

The Interpol is likely to issue a red notice soon against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other fugitive accused for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the historic July-August uprising.

"I believe that the Interpol will soon issue a red notice as it is now processing our application," Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam said.

He expressed the hope on Wednesday while talking to the media about the progress of the Interpol's issuance of red notices against over 100 'criminals', including Sheikh Hasina.

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) wanted the fugitive accused in cases.

"After the issuance of the red notice, the police of the countries concerned would have moral responsibility to arrest the fugitive accused," Mr Baharul said.

The IGP further said once Interpol issues the red notice, it will give an international responsibility to relevant countries to arrest the fugitives.

"As the red notice has been issued by the ICT, the host country is liable to arrest them."
