The BNP has described its landslide victory as a victory for democracy, victory for the nation.
On Friday, at the BNP chairperson's office in Gulshan, the spokesperson of the party's central election management committee, Dr Mahdi Amin, made these remarks.
He said BNP is the largest and most popular political party in Bangladesh.
The hopes, emotions and feelings of the people of the country are closely connected with BNP.
He said that BNP is a party of the common people and grassroots power.
The strong love and support the people have for the party--which upholds Bangladesh's independence, sovereignty and nationalism-- have been clearly reflected in this election.
He said they have seen an overwhelming and uncontested victory. "Today's victory is not only BNP's; it is a victory for democracy and for Bangladesh," he said.
Mahdi Amin also said they believe that the trust, support and love the people have shown toward their leader, Tarique Rahman, will help him ensure the rights and freedom of every citizen if he becomes prime minister in the future.
He said the next BNP government will work to meet people's expectations by ensuring accountability, transparency and a people-friendly administration.
He further said the new government will be founded on a long democratic struggle marked by enforced disappearances, killings, cases, attacks and human rights violations, as well as the sacrifices of many martyrs.
He expressed hope that their leader will fulfill the expectations of the families of the martyrs, bring positive change to people's lives, solve national problems, and protect the country's independence, sovereignty and democracy.
