Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) will hold a student rally at Shahbagh in the capital today (Sunday).
The organisation has expressed regret over the inconvenience to be caused to citizens in the capital due to the rally, it said in a statement on Saturday, reports BSS.
In June last, the BNP's student wing announced its decision to hold a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar on August 3 as part of its 36-day programme commemorating the July Uprising.
But later, the leaders of the National Citizen Party personally contacted JCD leaders several times and requested to shift the programme from Shaheed Minar as NCP will hold a programme there on August 3.
JCD said they also took permission from the Proctor's Office of Dhaka University regarding the rally at the Shaheed Minar.
But later, as a liberal, democratic, tolerant student organisation that believes in the coexistence of all views and paths, JCD changed its decision to shift the programme to Shahbagh, according to the statement.
The statement also said that JCD expressed its deepest regret for any kind of public suffering on Sunday. "We hope that the city residents will consider the matter with sympathy," the statement reads.
JCD has also given six instructions to its leaders and activists regarding the rally.
It said that no banners, festoons or placards can be brought to the rally, said a press release issued on Friday.
Personal showdowns or processions in attending the rally have been prohibited.
All units must mandatorily remain at the places designated by the center from the beginning to the end of the rally.
Emergency vehicles must be supported in the area from Kantaban intersection to Hotel Intercontinental.
No unit's vehicles will be allowed to enter Dhaka University. The rally venue should be left only after cleaning the designated area.
JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir have issued these instructions to the leaders and activists of all units.
