Justice to be ensured for journos sued under ICT Act

Trial to begin on November 1

FE REPORT | October 16, 2024 00:00:00

Law Advisor Dr Asif Nazrul on Tuesday said justice will be ensured for the journalists who were made accused in different cases filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

In a briefing on Tuesday at the ICT premises in the capital, the law advisor said, "A prosecution team will take their steps regarding the issue following due process of law and a deep analysis of the facts. All I can say is that trials (of the accused journalists) will take place. The outcome of the trials will ensure justice."

He was speaking at a briefing after visiting the reconstruction works of the ICT main building (old High Court building) at Tuesday evening.

"At least one and a half thousand people lost their lives and thousands of people became physically disabled during the July-August mass uprising. There is no precedent of such a mass killing in the history of this country or even in this subcontinent during a peaceful time (without war). Such a precedent is rare in the world."

He said the reconstruction of the ICT main building where the trial of the July-August mass uprising will take place, has been ongoing smoothly. He hoped that the trial will begin at the old High Court building from November 1.
