Price spiral

LDA's hartal March 28, WPB's demo Mar 13-20

FE REPORT | March 12, 2022 00:00:00

Different political parties have chalked out various agitation programmes to register protest against the unbridled escalation in prices of essential commodities, including rice, edible oil and sugar.

The Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) will observe hartal on March 28 pressing for immediate government intervention in controlling the prices of essentials to bring relief to the commoners' life.

LDA leaders at a press briefing at the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) central office at Purana Paltan in the capital on Friday announced the six-hour strike to be enforced from 6:00am to 12:00 noon.

It was a complete failure on the part of the government to not control the soaring prices of commodities, that has compelled the Alliance to go for announcement of the strike, they observed.

Coordinator of LDA Saiful Haque, its former coordinator Bazlur Rashid and general secretary of CPB Ruhin Hossain Prince, among others, were present at the briefing.

Besides, Workers Party of Bangladesh (WPB) will stage demonstration from March 13 to 20 across the country protesting against the surge in prices of essential commodities.

Chairman of WPB Rashed Khan Menon at a programme at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium in the capital marking the Golden Jubilee of the country's independence said all the achievements of the government would get erased if the soaring prices of essentials could not be brought under control.

He called upon the government to stabilise the prices of essential commodities taking into account woes of the consumers.

He said his party would hold an agitation programme from March 13 to 20 across the country in protest against the skyrocketing prices of essentials.
