Lisa for taking Rohingya back with dignity

COX'S BAZAR, Mar 3: Deputy Assistant to US President Donald Trump Lisa Curtis has said that Myanmar has to take back all Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh after ensuring their security and dignity as the solution of this crisis lies in Myanmar.

She made the comment to reporters at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar after visiting three camps on Saturday noon.

"To solve this continuous Rohingya crisis the US government will always be beside Bangladesh government", Lisa Curtis said.

Lisa conveyed President Trump's deep appreciation for Bangladesh for hosting more than a million Rohingya people forcibly displaced from Myanmar.

She reached the refugee camps with US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat at around 10:30 am and visited Kutupalong, Balukhali and Shamlapur refugee camps. During the visit Lisa talked to the homeless Rohingyas and heard their horrible stories in  Rakhine state.

Curtis, senior Director for South and central Asia of the National Security Council in the White House, praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government for sheltering a huge number of Rohingya refugees on the humanitarian ground.

"Bangladesh and all its friends were working to mount pressure on Myanmar to resolve the problem and create a situation so that Rohingyas could go their homes", Lisa said.

After visit to the Rohingya camps she left Cox's Bazar for Dhaka at around 2:30 pm.

Lisa Curtis arrived in Dhaka on Friday on a three-day official visit to discuss bilateral issues including security and ongoing Rohingya crisis.

She is likely to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Prime Ministe's Security Adviser Maj Gen (rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique and Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque during the visit.
