CHATTOGRAM, July 07: Two doctors of Max Hospital and Diagnostic Centre have been sacked for their negligence in the treatment of minor girl Raifa Khan that caused her death.

Sources said the two physicians are Dr Debashish Sengupta and Dr Shuvra Deb.

The authorities also decided not to call child specialist Dr Bidhan Roy Chowdhury to the hospital to avail of his service, said Liaquat Ali Khan, managing director of Max Hospital.

The three-member probe committee, headed by Chattogram Civil Surgeon  Azizur Rahman Siddiqui, submitted its report to the authorities concerned recommending taking action against three doctors for lack of their sincerity.

The nurses attending the minor girl were sincere in their duty, but they did not have knowledge to handle the crisis situation, the report said.

The report was sent to the director general of health under the Ministry of Health in Dhaka on Thursday. A copy of the report was also handed over to president of Chittagong Union of Journalists Nazimuddin Shyamol.

Sources said another probe committee headed by Dr Kazi Jahangir Hossain, director (hospitals and clinics), handed over its probe report to the health ministry on July 03.

The report also found 'negligence of doctors' in the treatment of two and a half-year-old girl Raifa, daughter of Rubel Khan, staff reporter of the daily Samakal. Other members of the committee were a child specialist of Dhaka Shishu Hospital and director (admin) of the directorate general of health. The committee did not disclose its findings.
