New CEC KM Nurul Huda, election commissioners Kabita Khanam, Rafiqul Islam, Mahbub Talukder and Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury. The newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and four other election commissioners will take oath on February 15, reports UNB.
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha will administer the oath at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge at 3pm, Sabbir Foyez, additional registrar of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, told the news agency Tuesday.
President Abdul Hamid on Monday night constituted the new Election Commission making former secretary KM Nurul Huda the CEC, as the tenure of the current EC expires by February 14.
He also appointed four new election commissioners-former additional secretary Mahbub Talukder, ex-secretary Rafiqul Islam, ex-district and sessions judge Begum Kabita Khanam and Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.
The CEC and the election commissioners will conduct the next general election scheduled for January, 2019.
