Nine candidates out of race as SC upholds HC order

The Appellate division of the Supreme court upheld on Monday a High Court (HC) order that stayed the Election Commission's decision allowing nine candidates, including eight BNP candidates, to contest the December 30 general election, reports UNB.
Chamber Judge of Appellate Division Justice Md Nuruzzaman passed "no order" on separate writ petitions filed by the candidates seeking stay on the HC order.
The eight BNP candidates are--Khandaker Abu Ashfaq from Dhaka-1, Tamij Uddin from Dhaka 20, Fazlur Rahman from Joypurhat-1, M A Majid from Jhenidah-2, Abu Sayeed Chand from Rajshahi-6, Faridul Kabir Talukder Shamim from Jamalpur-4, and Engineer Moslem Uddin from Brahmanbaria-4 while another is Mahmud Hasan Suman (independent) for Myemensingh-1.
