Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman addresses the press at the Rajshahi Cantonment on Tuesday. There is currently no external entity interfering in the country's current affairs, General Waqar-uz-Zaman, the Chief of Army Staff said during a meeting with the press at the Rajshahi cantonment on Tuesday.
When asked whether the ousted Awami League government's MPs and ministers have been taken into custody, General Waqar-uz-Zaman said, "Of course we have given them shelter," adding if there are complaints against them and cases are lodged, then they will be brought to justice.
"But of course we don't want any extrajudicial acts or attacks. We have sheltered them because of the threat to their lives," the general said adding that they will ensure the security of the people of any religion, party, or opinion.
"The army will fully support the current government in organizing an impartial election after the reform of the state."
Minority rights in the eight districts of the Rajshahi division do not have any issues, General Waqar-uz-Zaman said, adding that he wants to see everyone working together, leading the country to progress and moving towards a better future. He also praised the mostly scenic and serene nature of Rajshahi.
The country' armed forced held discussions with the Ansar, RAB, and BGB and reached to the conclusion that the situation now has returned to normalcy. "I would say that the law and order situation is now completely under our control," the general said.
"The police are somewhat traumatized. After overcoming the trauma, the police will be able to perform their duties properly," the general furthered.
Pointing to the fact that the police have already started working in police stations, the general said that they are providing the police forces with necessary protection.
"Once the police stations are fully operational, the situation will normalize further, and then we will go back to the cantonment," the army chief added.
